Monster In The Hauz @ Dataran Sunway, Petaling Jaya

Located in Dataran Sunway is this relatively new restaurant called Monster In The Hauz that had just started business April this year. It is located along Jalan PJU 5/10, right above Topcom Cellular and Pro Locksmith. Having sighted this restaurant today, we decided to check out the place and see what they have to offer.

This restaurant is located on the first floor and to access, you would need to use the stairs that is located on the left. Just a flight of stairs up and you would come into this restaurant.

Once upstairs, we were greeted by a girl who was at the cashier. I believe that she must be a joint owner of this outlet. It was quite empty when we arrived and we were the only patrons. This must be because it is rather new and would still need some time to pick up over the months. It could also be that we arrived at an odd time which was neither lunch nor dinner. Everything seemed new here and the design was simple and nice. I would also like to mention that the place was very clean and tidy. There seemed to be two other rooms facing the street which seemed more like a smoking zone and the inner one was a non smoking area. The only setback was that though air conditioned, the place was rather hot and we were profusely sweating and it ended up being a rather uncomfortable dining experience for us.

The Menu
The lady serving us was very courteous and I have no complaints in that area. She ensured that we were attended to immediately and gave us her fullest attention. We were then handed the menu and above are a few photographs of the menu. Their offering is quite simple and is mainly around their Pork Burgers. They also have a three layered Pork Burger which comes with three large patties of Pork. Other items available are Spaghetti, Fried Rice, some side dishes and they serve Vegetarian items too. We were in the mood to try a number of items from their menu and hence ended up ordering quite a bit which we shared between the both of us.

I Liked The Coffee Mugs

Hot White Coffee @ RM 4.50
Angie just went with a glass of plain water and I as always, went for a coffee. I liked their Coffee mug and that is why you see two photos above. Now coming to their coffee, it was rather just above average. I am not sure what coffee they used but it lacked the usual aroma and kick one gets out of a great cup of coffee. I would only rate their coffee at 6/10 .

Olive Fried Rice @ RM 9.90

Closer Look At The Olive Fried Rice
Being priced at RM 9.90, we found this dish to be really good. I must admit that it was very good. It definitely tasted unique and not like any other Fried Rice that I have tasted before. I am not sure what was added but it must be the Olives and other ingredients added that has given it this great uplift in taste. I would vote 10/10 for this dish. A must try dish here.

Original Monster Pork Burger @ RM 9.90
The next dish that we tried is their Original Pork Burger. This came with a single Pork patty, a slice of cheese and some vegetables in the burger. Also some crinkle cut fries. The fries were rather dry and thin. The burger to me was just above average. Maybe if I had just eaten the patty alone, it may have tasted better but put in together, something was just not right and it had definitely hindered the flavours from coming out the way it should. I would only rate this at 5.5/10 .

Black Pepper Pork Burger @ RM 9.90
I found this to be better than the previous one. The Black Pepper coating was able to bring out more flavour from the burger and it blended well with the other ingredients stacked in the burger. I would rate this at 6.8/10 .

Mini Bucket of Pork Sausage @ RM 5.90
This was the last dish that we had here today. Nothing much to shout about this dish and it was slightly charred. They should have been more careful with the preparation. I would only rate this at 5.8/10 .

On the whole, I would say that the burgers were just average here, the dining conditions though being clean and well designed, was rather uncomfortable as the air conditioning was very bad. I have had much better Pork Burgers elsewhere in the Klang Valley. The Olive Fried Rice however was very good. I must say that they should do something on improving the dining comfort and also slightly modify the recipe to give it a boost in taste.
