The 60's Teow Chew Fishball: House Of Fishball @ Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, Kuala Lumpur

Restaurant The 60's Teow Chew Fishball: House Of Fishball has been around for many years now with a number of branches around the Klang Valley.Previously they used to be known as Tang House of Fishball. Their very first outlet is the one in Seapark and this one in Taman Tun Dr. Ismail is one of their most recent outlets which has been in operation for about a year now. I was always confused on their connection with Fish Castle in Damansara Utama and had just received confirmation that they were once part of the same group and then that partner broke off  and re-branded that restaurant to Fish Castle with a specific focus on the Halal market. It is also confirmed that now both entities make their own fishballs and the recipe differs. I am a frequent customer to Fish Castle as I love their Curry Mee, Fish Paste and Fishballs but have never tried this place out although this has been an older brand in the market. Tonight would be the first time that I am tasting their food.

Despite the fact that their business hours are from 7.30 am till 11.00 pm, they may close early if there are no customers. For instance tonight, I arrived here at 9.30 pm and they were already getting ready to close  as there weren't many customers but the owner was very accommodating and invited me in. The set up is standard across all their outlets as it is also very similar to how Fish Castle is too. Well this must simply be because they were all part of the same group once.

The menu is very similar to the one in Fish Castle except that you get slightly more dishes here. The deserts and drinks are almost the same. But do note that unlike Fish Castle, this is a non Halal restaurant and they include Pork and Lard in their dishes. 

Lime Sour Plum @ RM 2.00
This drink was definitely good and it came with a real Sour Plum in it and not those flavourings. Absolutely well fixed and I would rate this drink at 9.5/10 .

Signature Mee Pok Dry @ RM 6.00

The above Mee Pok is one of their signature dishes. It comes with the flattened yellow egg noodles, two slices of Fish Paste,Minced Pork, Fried Lard, topped with a flavourful sauce and two Fishballs on the side served in a clear soup. You have an option of having them to spice it in the kitchen or for it to be served as it is and you add the Chili Paste according to your taste. I went for the latter option as I preferred to do it myself. What really adds taste to this dish is the minced Pork and the Fried Lard. Mixed together, it was really good and it is very important to ensure that it is thoroughly mixed. The taste is light and gentle and unlike other noodle dishes, this is not oily. I would rate this dish at 8.5/10 .

Handmade Fishball (10 Pieces) @ RM 6.00
Their Fishballs were surely very soft and fluffy and from the taste, it was clear that they were handmade, free of boric acid and preservatives. But comparing this to the one found at Fish Castle, I feel that the latter is better. This one was still slightly harder than the one found in Fish Castle. The fishballs had also an occasional taste of fish bones and from this it is evident that the meat was ground together with the bones and this was not an isolated instance but was a common thing that I experienced while having the entire dish. This was definitely not something that is bad but it just tasted odd to me. The clear soup was also rather flat and that I suppose is because MSG was not used which is a good thing. I would rate these Fishballs at 7/10 . 

Fried Fish Noodle & Chee Cheong Fun @ RM 7.00
This was a unique dish that I am seeing here. I wanted to try this in the restaurant itself but since I was quite full, decided to take away for supper. This is the first time ever that I am seeing Fish Noodles which is Fish meat that is processed to be long and thick like the typical noodles. This Char Kuey Teow like dish was prepared using Chee Cheong Fun and the Fish Noodles. The taste was slightly on the salty side but honestly, it was good. The only setback is the amount of oil used to prepare this dish. Would have been a healthier dish if lesser oil was used. Otherwise, it was a great dish. I would rate this at 9/10 .

On the whole, this restaurant does have some nice dishes to offer and the service comes with a smile which is  another plus point. Their food is quite decent and I forgot to mention that their Fish Paste was excellent. The drinks too are good and the prices are quite reasonable. Definitely a good all day dining restaurant.
