Jalan Reko Portuguese Grilled Fish @ Kajang, Selangor

In Kajang, there seems to be many restaurants that are operating from their homes and this is one such place. This restaurant specialises in Grilled Fish and they are prepared in a variety of styles.

This place has a very humble set up and it would take a local to know that there is a restaurant here. Even the banner was a faded one. Despite being located right beside Jalan Reko not too far away from the MRT Station, it may be tough to spot this place if you drive fast. It also seems that the Rasikka Rusikka Team had endorsed this restaurant and that gave me an assurance that the food should be good.

They have three seating sections here, one is in the living room, another in the porch and they also do have some tables outdoors. Their menu was rather simple but it had a good variety of grilled fish. Besides that, a variety of noodles and other dishes were also available. The house itself seems old, must be one of those early residential areas in Kajang but it had a good upkeep and the place was clean. We were here around 9 pm and even at that hour, there was a steady flow of customers and the boss seemed to be addressing everyone by their name. They definitely must have a good customer base that visits them frequently.

Grilling In Progress
We had ordered one Grilled Fish and a bowl of noodles. The fish is fresh as it is kept alive in an aquarium. We actually witnessed the killing of the fish right in front of our eyes. One staff catches the fish and then hands it over to another staff that kills it with a single blow right there at the porch. He then cleans the fish and hands it over to the lady boss who grills the fish herself. She then heats up the charcoal grill, adds the ingredients into the foil and places the fish on the grill. Since they use charcoal grills, it does take a while for the fish to be cooked but it was worth the wait.

Loh Mee @ RM 6.00
The bowl of Loh Mee that we ordered came quite fast. For RM 6.00 , it was good to be shared by two people. It came with lots of shrimps, fish cake and sliced pork and the broth was just perfect. The right thickness and the flavours were mild and good. Not as great as the ones that we get in Ulu Yam, nevertheless it was way better than the ones that you get in Kuala Lumpur. My rating for this shall be 8/10.

Grilled Fish @ RM 37.00

Absolutely Delicious Stuff!
We had ordered the grill fish that was to be cooked with ginger and they were very generous with the ginger. The fish itself was so good and it was so soft and nice. The overall combination of ginger, birds eye chili, soy sauce and okra was heavenly. It was so good that even after being done with the fish, we kept scooping out the sauces. The fish itself may be slightly pricey but it's definitely worth it. My rating for this shall be 9/10.

This is a very humble set up that operates from a house in Taman Hijau which is located along Jalan Reko, Kajang. They specialise in a variety of Grilled Fish preparations and this home restaurant has been in existence for ages. Besides the fish dishes, they do have some noodles which is pretty good as well. The fish itself could be slightly pricey but it's totally worth it. Do be prepared to wait as it may take some time for the fish to be grilled since they use charcoal grills. Another gem of a place that should not be missed in Kajang. This place has also been endorsed by the Rasikka Rusikka Team from ASTRO.

  1. One thing amazes me is how Malaysians could dine in in such dirty places. No matter they are rich or middle class, they go to these places. You call it humble. Wow. I feel so shallow to even look at it and think dirty. That is a very nice way of thinking. Something to learn from you. I would still call it dirty but will not say it loud. Haha.

Hey the I am not robot is annoying, mind removing it? Thanks,
