MB Restaurant @ Kajang, Selangor

This evening, we were in the mood to explore another eatery that we had not tried before. As we drove past Taman Kajang Prima, we saw this restaurant called MB Restaurant which seemed to be like a food court concept. Having not tried this place in the past, we decided to check the place out.

The Restaurant Along Jalan KP 1/2, Taman Kajang Prima
This restaurant is located in one corner of Taman Kajang Prima and their location gives them the advantage of being noticed even from the outer trunk road. That was how we came across them in the first place. Parking along the row of shops seems to be a challenge but if you go a little further up, there's a vacant plot of land where you could park. Business seemed good to me and that's based on the crowd that was there this evening. The restaurant has a kitchen of it's own as well and it seemed to be selling food items like Fried Noodles etc. We were in the mood for hawker food and so, decided to try out some of the stalls there.

Hong Kong Shrimp Chee Cheong Fan

Chicken Satay with Peanut Dip Sauce
There was one stall that only sells the Hong Kong Chee Cheong Fan. It seemed to look good and we had ordered a small serving. In a matter of minutes, the dish was served. I would say that it was above average and nothing to shout about. I felt that the skin was a little too thick and that hindered us from enjoying the fillings. My rating for this shall be 6/10. There was another Chinese Uncle that was selling Satay. In fact, he only does Chicken Satay and we had ordered a few sticks. This however turned out to be good. The meat was lean and the marination was perfect. Their Peanut Dip Sauce was finely ground, mildly sweet and spicy. This preparation was definitely different when compared to the Satay prepared by a Malay operator, nevertheless it was delicious. My rating for this shall be 8/10.

Nasi Lemak with Fried Chicken

Kaya Puffs
Near the entrance, there is an Indian gentleman that sells Nasi Lemak with a few add on's and we decided to give that a try as well. His Nasi Lemak was really good and if you ask for extra Sambal, he would really give you a generous portion of Sambal on another saucer. Being one who loves spicy food, I absolutely loved his Sambal and Nasi Lemak. The Fried Chicken however wasn't great. My recommendation would be to go for the former and skip the latter. Taste wise, I would rate his Nasi Lemak at 8/10 and Fried Chicken at 4/10. There was another stall outside the food court that was selling some pastries as well as Nyonya cakes. To take away, we had purchased some Kaya Puffs. This too wasn't to my liking. I felt that the outer crispy skin was just too thick and the amount of Kaya filling could have been more. Taste wise, I would rate this at 5/10.

MB Restaurant is a neighborhood food court that serves some good food. From what we tried this evening, I would say that the Nasi Lemak sold by the Indian gentleman along with the Chicken Satay sold by the Chinese gentleman were really good.

G Letchumitrah Curry House @ Subang Jaya, Selangor

It's been a really long time since I last visited G Letchumitrah Curry House. This restaurant has been around for a very long time and they are located in USJ Tanamera area. The last time I visited them was some 10 years back and from what I remember, the food had been amazing. It's just that I hardly come around this area and since I was here for work this evening, I did not want to miss the opportunity of visiting them.

The Restaurant Along Jalan Merpati

My Meal @ RM 5.00
One good thing about this restaurant is the ample parking spaces. Not only public parking, but they also have a large plot of land on the side that is specifically for customers of this restaurant. Having been here numerous times in the past, I was confident that their food will be good. From what I remember, even their vegetarian dishes were tasty. And having had that confidence, I decided to go for a vegetarian meal. Choices are good and this applies to both vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes. This evening, I had gone for some Rice, Venthaya Kulambu, Potatoes, Tofu Sambal and Snake Gourd Perattal and this lot, cost me only RM 5.00 .

Venthaya Kulambu

Potatoes
Their Venthaya Kulambu was awesome. As expected, the quality had been consistently good. The Kulambu had such amazing flavours that I instantly fell in love with it. Besides that, they had also added a lot of vegetables in the Kulambu which again is something that I very much appreciate. Similarly, their Potato dish was excellent as well. Despite being a simple Mashed Potato preparation, it was so tasty that I wouldn't mind having just this with White Bread. Really good stuff. For both the items, my rating would be 10/10.

Tofu Sambal

Snake Gourd Perattal
Their Tofu Sambal was nice. It was mildly spicy and slightly sweet. My only complain would be that the cuts were a tad too big. If only they had cut them into smaller cubes, it would have been better. Otherwise, it was delicious. My rating for this shall be 9/10. Their Snake Gourd Perattal was also good. Prepared with ghee and Dhall, it was just amazing. Not overcooked as well. My rating for this shall again be 9/10.

It has been a long time since I last visited G Letchumitrah Curry House. This evening, I was in the vicinity and decided to drop by and it was indeed a worthwhile visit. This time around, I decided to go for a vegetarian spread and each and every item that I had tried was really good. Prices were reasonable as well. If you happen to be on this side of town, I would definitely recommend visiting this restaurant. Good food and reasonable prices.

Dynasty Fire Restaurant @ Hulu Bernam, Selangor

Dynasty Fire Restaurant is a rather new restaurant that had taken over from the previous management. I have blogged about this place sometime in July 2017, that was when they had just taken over the place. Being impressed with the food, we decided to come back this afternoon for lunch. This restaurant is located in Taman Weng Cheong which is on the Hulu Bernam side of town along Jalan Changkat Asa. The restaurant has two sections, an air-conditioned dining hall and another open space. Service is speedy here and the reception that you get is warm too.

Teo Chew Style Steamed Fish @ RM 34.20
This Teo Chew Style Steamed Fish is a dish that I absolutely love and the preparation here is quite good. The pickled vegetables aren't too sour and that makes the dish to be not overpowered by a strong sourness. The mix of ingredients were good too and not forgetting the portion which I felt to be very reasonable price wise. My rating for this dish shall be 7/10.

Sizzling Tofu @ RM 13.00
Their Sizzling Tofu was above average for me. I would have preferred for it to have some egg at the base and a little more of minced pork. The volume of Japanese Tofu however was satisfactory. My rating for this shall be 7/10.

Sweet & Sour Pork @ RM 15.00

This Sweet & Sour Pork was an excellent preparation. The meat pieces were excellent and coated in some crispy batter and the blend of vegetables along with the sauces were just perfect. Loved this! I would rate this dish at 9/10.

Butter Prawns @ RM 33.00
Another good dish that we all enjoyed. The batter was just perfect and the prawns were wonderfully done. Loved the flavours! My rating for this shall be 8/10. The only grievance would be the slightly high prices. Otherwise, it was a good dish.

Kam Heong Clams @ RM 16.00
Their Kam Heong Clams was lip smacking good. The curried dried shrimp paste was thick and they were very generous with it. They had not ground the dried shrimps finely and that too helped boost the taste. Something different to the norms and it was surely a welcomed change. The price was another huge surprise as well. I expected this dish to be somewhere close to RM 20.00 + but it was a mere RM 16.00 . A deal and dish that one should not miss. Excellent it was and I would rate this at 10/10.

Overall, we were quite happy with the dishes and the prices seemed reasonable too. Most of the dishes tasted pretty good as well. This would definitely be a place that I would be visiting more often. A good Chinese restaurant to visit if you happen to be in Tanjung Malim / Hulu Bernam area.

Velan Curry House @ Kajang, Selangor

Velan Curry House is a South Indian Restaurant that had started sometime in the month of December, 2017. This restaurant is located in Taman Kajang Prima, just beside the Chinese Food Court. One good thing about this place is that parking is quite easily available, both on weekdays and weekends.

Velan Curry House in Taman Kajang Prima

My Lunch @ RM 10.00
We were here slightly after the usual lunch hour and many of the food items had already been sold out. Business seems to be good and that is a positive indicator that the food has got to be good too. Anyway, whatever that was left over seemed more than enough for us and so we decided to continue having lunch here. The restaurant itself is very clean and the waiters were very helpful and friendly. Chicken and Fish are fried on request. As for my selection of items, I went for some rice, Fish Curry, Goat Intestine Perattal, Murunga Keerai and Chicken Varuval. This whole lot cost me a mere RM 10.00 which is definitely a fantastic deal.

Fish Curry

Goat Intestine Perattal
Their Fish Curry was definitely good. It came with lots of brinjals and okra which was just perfect. The flavours were just right as well. My rating for this shall be 7/10. Their Goat Intestine Perattal was good too. The cuts were just about the right size and the gravy was good. It would have been better if the gravy was thick. Nevertheless, the preparation was nice and my rating for this shall be 7/10.

Murunga Keerai

Chicken Varuval

Fried Tenggiri Fish @ RM 5.00
Murunga Keerai is something that is hard to find these days and I was happy that I could get it here. It has definitely been a long time since I last had this and for me, it was a treat. The preparation was also nice and my rating for this shall be 8/10. Their Chicken Varuval was just okay. The meat cuts were perfectly sized and the masala was good too. The only setback was that it had a little too much salt and that was a put off. For me, I would only rate this at 5/10. The Fried Tenggiri Fish was excellent. It was freshly fried on request and we get to choose the cuts. The marination was good and the fish was crispy on the outside and hot and juicy on the inside. 9/10 would be my rating for this.

In summary, Velan Curry House does serve some delicious South Indian food and the variety that they have is quite impressive. If you're coming for lunch, I would suggest coming before 12 noon as their food tends to get sold out rather quickly. Another thing that I have got to highlight is the very reasonable prices and excellent customer service.

Jayna Vilas Banana Leaf @ Cyberjaya, Selangor

Jayna Vilas Banana Leaf Restaurant had started it's business in Cyberjaya sometime towards the end of November 2017. Having been impressed with the food the last time I was here, we decided to visit them again this evening.

The Restaurant Located Along Jalan GC 3, Cyberjaya

My Dinner @ RM 10.00
There's an amazing variety that you get here and that applies to both vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes. Fish and Chicken are fried on request as well and in the evenings, there's all those tiffin items that you would typically get in a South Indian restaurant. As for this evening, I decided to go for rice and along with that, I had some Fish Curry, two Omelettes, some vegetables and a heap of Goat Intestine Peratttal. All of this was priced at RM 10.00 which I felt was very reasonable.

Fish Curry

2 Omelettes
I was in love with their Fish Curry. It was thick, rich in spices and had an authentic taste to it. Very seldom that we get curries this good these days. My rating for this shall be 9/10. Their Omelette was tasty as well. It was fried with onions and green chilies and even the thickness was about just right. It was so good that I had to take another one. Again, this too deserves a rating of 9/10.

Keerai

Aatu Kudal Perattal (Goat Intestine)
Despite being a simple preparation, their Keerai was amazingly delicious. The leaves were fresh, not overcooked and the flavours were perfect. Their Goat Intestine Perattal was another treat as well. The cuts were perfectly sliced and they were cooked in a thick, rich and aromatic gravy. Loved it! I shall rate both of these dishes at 10/10.

Rava Tosai @ RM 3.00
My friend had a Rava Tosai along with some vegetarian curries and Coconut Chutney. One look at the Tosai and I knew that it was good and true enough, it was. Even the Venthaya Kulambu, Sambar and Coconut Chutney were tasty. I shall rate their Rava Tosai at 9/10 and the same applies to their Chutney as well.

Our Bill
Restoran Jayna Vilas does offer some excellent variety on a daily basis. The food was good and I loved the warm reception given by the staffs. Most of the items that I had tried today tasted very much like home cooked food and for the variety and quantity that I had taken, I felt that the prices were very reasonable as well. This is another fantastic South Indian restaurant in Cyberjaya that I would recommend visiting.

Restoran D' Hainan Kitchen @ Cyberjaya, Selangor

Restoran D' Hainan Kitchen is another relatively new restaurant that had recently started in Cyberjaya. This restaurant is located in CBD 2 and is just a few doors away from the famous Salam Noodles.

Restoran D' Hainan Kitchen in CBD 2, Cyberjaya
This restaurant specialises in Hainanese Cuisine and is Halal certified. Besides ordering from the main kitchen, during lunch hours, you could also pick up some local cakes from the outer kitchen which is located near their entrance. The set up is quite posh and the entire restaurant is air-conditioned.

Cucur Udang & Fried Popiah
We decided to try some of their cakes and we choose Fried Popiah and Cucur Udang. I must say that both were pretty decent. They were not greasy and even the dip sauce was tasty. My rating for these shall be 8/10.

Roasted Chicken Rice Set @ RM 8.80

Roasted Chicken

Clear Soup
Their Roasted Chicken Rice set was not bad. The Rice had a lovely aroma and it tasted reasonably good. My rating for their rice shall be 8/10. Similarly, their Roasted Chicken was decent too. The only setback was that I found it to be a little on the dry side. It would have been better if the chicken was juicy. I would rate their Roasted Chicken at 7/10. Their Clear Soup was just okay. For me, it definitely needed a little more flavours. I would rate this at 6/10.

Kuey Teow Soup @ RM 8.90

Marmite Chicken with White Rice @ RM 8.80
Their Kuey Teow Soup came in a pretty huge portion and is good to feed a heavy eater. Flavours wise, it was quite decent and I loved the mix of ingredients. My rating for this shall be 7/10. Their Marmite Chicken with Rice was good. The Chicken chunks were fresh but they could have been a little more generous with the marmite. My rating for this shall be 8/10.

Steamed Chicken Wantan Mee @ RM 7.90

Clear Soup with Dumplings
Their Wantan Mee was definitely good. They were quite generous with the sauces and the egg noodles were tasty. Their Steamed Chicken was also way better when compared to their Roasted Chicken. I would rate this at 8/10. Their dumplings in clear soup was just okay for me and I would rate that at 6/10.

Our Bill
For Halal Wantan Mee, D' Hainan Kitchen would be a good choice. Even their Chicken Rice was decent and for the set up, I find their prices to be reasonable. Worth visiting if you happen to be in Cyberjaya.

Restoran Nasi Kukus Famosa @ Cyberjaya, Selangor

Restoran Nasi Kukus Famosa is a restaurant that had recently started in CBD Perdana 2, Cyberjaya. This restaurant specialises in the Nasi Kukus variety. Despite being very close to my office, I only managed to visit them this afternoon for lunch.

The Restaurant In CBD 2, Cyberjaya

A Very Posh Set Up
This restaurant is located directly behind Restoran Salam Noodles and they are open from 7 am till 10 pm daily. The entire set up is very posh and overall, it has such a cosy ambiance. Weather you are here for a quick meal or to have a business discussion, the place is just perfect. The entire feel here is like walking in to a 4 or 5 star hotel and the staffs are a class above any day to day restaurant.

Nasi Kukus With Fried Chicken
The offering is not limited to the above They have a huge variety to choose from right from poultry, meat and even seafood. Even the variety of vegetables that they have were quite impressive. Prices aren't the usual and that is only natural since they operate an upscale restaurant.

Stir Fried Okra and Sambal Belacan

Chicken Gravy
I went for their Stir Fried Okra and I absolutely loved it. They were very generous with the ingredients and the veggie was not overdone. It was still crispy and taste wise it was one that I totally enjoyed. My rating for this shall be 9/10. Similarly, their Sambal Belacan was a class of it's own. It was such a potent preparation that it literally stings. This deserves a perfect 10/10. I went for some Chicken Curry and again, this was simply amazing. Rich with spices and the gravy was thick and concentrated. 9/10 would be my rating for this.

Fried Chicken
Another one that we very much enjoyed is their Fried Chicken. It was deep fried to a golden brown perfection leaving the skin crispy and the meat juicy. This is one that would put many of those famous Fried Chicken joints to shame. Absolutely loved it and my rating for this shall be 9/10.

Restoran Nasi Kukus Famosa is definitely a place that serves some amazing food. The ambiance is wonderful, very helpful and attentive waiters and excellent food. Prices are slightly premium but you get some really delicious food that is not easy to get these days. If you're looking for a good restaurant to have the Nasi Kukus variety in Cyberjaya, then my recommendation would definitely be for Nasi Kukus Famosa.

Restoran Makanan Laut Jeti @ Kuala Selangor, Selangor

Having been in the mood for some seafood, we decided to do a day trip to Kuala Selangor. This fishing town does offer some very good Chinese seafood at very reasonable prices. Once you're in Kuala Selangor, just keep driving past the old town. Once you've crossed the large bridge that goes over the Selangor River, you'd see a turning on your left shortly ahead which leads into Pasir Penampang area. This fishing village has got so many restaurants to choose from. Most of them are not Halal certified but these two restaurants which are the famous ones, Restoran Makanan Laut Jeti and Riverside Restaurant are Halal certified. This afternoon, we visited Restoran Makanan Laut Jeti.

The Restaurant In Pasir Penampang Area
If you're coming here during the weekends or public holidays, parking can be a huge challenge. My advise would be to either come for an early lunch or a late lunch. Besides having some good seafood, you could also visit the shops here that sell sea produce at very reasonable prices, way cheaper than what you would get in the city. If you're looking for some activity to do after lunch, you could go on one of those eagle feeding tours, firefly sighting tours or even go up Melawati Hill which has so many historical attractions.

Mantau Bun @ RM 4.00

Sweet & Sour Crab (1 Kg) @ RM 90.00

Salted Egg Mantis Prawns @ RM 26.00
There were eight of us this afternoon and that being the case, we could order more dishes. The first one to arrive was the Mantau Bun and Sweet & Sour Crabs. The Mantau Bun was priced at RM 4.00 which I felt to be very cheap and the crabs were priced at RM 90.00 . Not to say the cheapest that I have come across in these seafood towns but it was still cheaper than the cities. I could have the same 1 Kg crabs at Sungai Besar for RM 56.00 . Anyway, the closer the seafood town is to the city, the higher the price that they charge. This is something that I have observed. Nevertheless, it was still worth it. I would rate the Mantau Bun's at 7/10 and the crabs at 8/10. The Salted Egg Mantis Prawns were nice too. They could have been a little more generous with the Salted Eggs, still it was okay taste wise. My rating for this shall be 8/10.

Deep Fried Squid @ RM 25.00

Nestum Prawns @ RM 36.00
The Deep Fried Squid was good. I felt that the portion was good too for the price and the squid itself was tasty. My rating for this shall be 8/10. The Nestum Prawns was again good but the best version of this dish that I have come across in these seafood towns would be the one that I had in Carey Island. Nevertheless, the prawns were fresh and the meat was sweet and tasty. The preparation was decent too and I would rate this dish at 8/10.

Kam Heong Clams @ RM 25.00

Teo Chew Style Steamed Ikan Merah @ RM 42.00
Their Kam Heong Style Clams were nice. The only setback would be the small clams used. It would have been better if they had used the larger ones. Ingredients wise, it was surely good. My rating for this shall be 7/10. Their Teo Chew Style Steamed Fish was decent. Not the best version that I had tasted, but it was still good. Again, 7/10 would be my rating for this.

Stir Fried Okra with Garlic @ RM 12.00

Stir Fried Broccoli with Garlic @ RM 14.00
Both the vegetables were good. Despite both being prepared the same style, both had a unique taste of it's own. We enjoyed both the dishes and my rating for these shall be 8/10. Prices were very reasonable too.

Our Bill For The Day
If you're in the mood for some seafood, then it is worth driving down to Kuala Selangor. With the new LATAR Highway, the journey has been shortened by half and besides the good food, there's so much more to see there as well. Although the prices are no longer as cheap as they once were, still it is worth the drive. Restoran Makanan Laut Jeti is definitely a restaurant that I would recommend.
